How do you discern a friend from a soulmate?

Maybe a soulmate understands your soul and not just yourself. They've aided in your growth, support who you are and who you become. Each one has touched your soul in such a unique way that life just wouldn't be the same if they hadn't stepped in and stayed for as long as they did. They are gifts from God, almost like earth angels even though they can be less than angelic. I think that's what a soulmate is.
